Interior Design Project – Charleston

Elegant Mid-Century Mix

At this project, we completed the downstairs renovation of this Charleston-inspired home. We added a 2-car garage and a dining room and entirely remodeled the kitchen. The remaining parts of the room were refreshed with new color palettes and floorings.

New Entrance

Because Charleston homes are derived from South French architecture of the 18th century, I wanted to replace the porcelain floor with a mosaic marble tile and border. The chandelier adds a modern twist to this contemporary home.

New Kitchen

The kitchen was remodeled with a new island, coffer ceiling, cabinets, and Thermador appliances. Please scroll further to see the BEFORE pictures.

Faithful to my client’s style directions, we mixed modern with traditional. We opted for two-toned Shaker cabinets with a beautiful marble countertop. I wanted to bring a new focal point to the room, so I rearranged the stove, sink, and fridge. The island design was another modern twist with some industrial accents.

We opened the wall to add volume to the room as its ceiling was extra high. Coffer ceilings were hard work but definitely worth it for this upscale residence.

New Dining Room

The dining room was originally the living room. To improve traffic flow and increase seating in the living room, I designed this extension by enclosing the porch and repurposing those stunning French doors. We also extended the coffer ceilings to the room.

This room is bathed in sunlight throughout the day.

New Living Room

We kept the original fireplace but replaced the tile and flooring to remain faithful to its French Style.

Little Boy’s Bedroom

Chalkboard and metallic wall for magnets: This room was extremely fun to design, as was its bathroom.

Boy’s room “office”

Boy’s Bathroom

I designed and executed this mural in its entirety. We also refreshed the cabinets and added a Spider Chandelier to give the bathroom a fun Gotham feel for these Baby Marvel Super Heroes.

Before

The kitchen had the dilemma of a small room with tall ceilings and no island. Also, note the location of appliances and windows, which did not help its function.

BEFORE Kitchen

The old kitchen door was moved, as well as the French doors, to now open onto the dining room.

The dining and living area was shared in this space, limiting sitting and furniture layouts. Note also 18 x 18 porcelain tile.

BEFORE Living Room

From this angle, we face the kitchen wall, which is now wide open.

BEFORE Boy’s bedroom

This room was turned into the boy’s bedroom.

The corner nook was turned into the boy’s “office”.
